Molly Melling

Molly Melling is Marketing Director at Alkali Environmental Consultants, an environmental scientist by training with hands-on experience in heavily regulated industrial environments and in scientific research used internationally to shape pharmaceutical pollution policy.

She holds a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science from the University of York and a PGCE with Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) — a combination that underpins how she approaches technical communication: scientifically accurate, regulator-aware, and written to be understood by the people who actually have to act on it.

Earlier in her career Molly contributed to the Global Monitoring of Pharmaceuticals Project, the largest international study of active pharmaceutical ingredients in the world's rivers. The underlying monitoring data has been cited in peer-reviewed research published in PNAS (Wilkinson et al., 2022) and in Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry, contributing to the global evidence base on pharmaceutical pollution, water quality and aquatic exposure assessment.

She has also worked across the UK nuclear sector — covering the breadth of the environmental function and project engineering — giving her direct exposure to radiological discharges, environmental permitting, environmental monitoring programmes and the way Tier 1 regulated operators run compliance against site licences and EPR permits.

At Alkali she leads marketing and communications across the group and supports business development for the consultancy and stack emissions testing divisions. The focus is practical: clearer technical content around MCERTS stack emissions testing, environmental permitting, air quality, odour, noise and dust monitoring, and a faster route from enquiry to the right specialist.

Her work focuses on giving operators clear visibility of the practical benefit Alkali's expert team can bring to their compliance programme — translating UKAS, MCERTS, Environment Agency and BAT-level technical detail into guidance that operators, EHS managers and permit holders can actually use.
